BeOS PROGRESS
(October 31) Wildcard Design Inc. reports that their BeOS port of C:CTP is "rock solid" after merging and testing the Version 1.2 update sent to them by Activision in the wake of the similarly modeled patch for the PC. In addition, the recently added screenshots by Wildcard show that the look and feel of this port, as is the case with the one for the Linux platform, is similar to that of the PC.

When released (anticipated date still to be announced), it will be playable for BeOS platforms v4.5 and later. Our thanks to Kevin for the note.

MODIFYING AI, DIPLOMACY
(October 30) The last couple of weeks there has been a lot discussion on what is possible to modify in the areas of AI behaviour in general, as well as in diplomacy. Do check out the "Improved aidata files" thread in the CTP-General forum and the "Diplomacy AI" and "AI & Diplomacy stuff..." in the CTP-Creation forum.

ALL LINUX V1.1 PATCHES
(October 23) We now host all the 1.1 patches for the Linux version of CTP, for x86, PPC(Beta version) and Alpha platforms. More on Loki's site.

6 NEW FILES IN DB
(October 22) Six new files in our Database today, specifically two maps: "Super Europe" and Japan, and four mods: SpellWeaver's 1200AD MOD, Bronson Mathews' MOD, Improved AI Data Files and World Report.

LOKI HACK WINNERS ANNOUNCED
(October 15) Remember this? LokiSoft Entertainment, the company who ported C:CTP to the Linux OS, in cooperation with Activision, Inc., the Atlanta Linux Enthusiasts and VA LiNUX Systems, held Loki Hack 1999 this week. And what a success it was.
Quoting from the press release made today:
"During the Hack, enthusiastic and talented hackers from across the country and around the world had 48 hours in a secure setting to make alterations to the Linux source code for Activision's popular strategy game Civilization: Call to Power. The hackers had full rein to add features, alter logic, and implement additional library support. Upon conclusion of the contest on Wednesday, October 13, a panel of judges, including Sam Lantinga of Loki Entertainment Software, Greg Hankins of the Atlanta Linux Showcase, and Jeff "Hemos" Bates of Slashdot evaluated the hacks.
"This is the closest we could get to Open Source with our commercial products," said Scott Draeker, Loki president and founder. "The world can't see the source, but the contestants did. And all the hacks, mods, and changes will be posted in binary form for free download from our website next week. This was our chance to show the gaming world what the Open Source community can accomplish, and the results have been incredible."

LINUX DEMO FOR THE TAKING
(October 14) Are you a skeptical Linux gamer anxious to get your first taste of CTP without having to first buy the product?
Well, set the table and pop the champagne.
LokiSoft has released the long-anticipated demo of their port of Activision's CTP, the first commercial game to make the historic entrance that opened Linux's gaming lineup potential.
Weighing in at almost 57MB, and not to mention the demand and the limited availability of this item -- currently only four mirrors (3 FTP, 1 HTTP) are in operation -- users will have to be patient in getting a hold of their copy. Busy signals, time-outs and slow transfer rates are to be expected until a combination of additional mirrors and reduced demand come into play.
Before beginning your download, make sure you have the time and the resources to warrant it. In consulting the documentation, you will note that at least 32MB RAM and 400MB hard disk space is required to install and run it.
CTP for Linux is anticipated to hit the shelves at participating retailers sometime this month. And speaking of demos, the hefty 75MB CTP one for the PC is currently only available on selected PC magazine CD's. No definite word on if a timeline for the demo to be "online available" is in the works.

CD MOD 4.22, TRUE TERRAIN MOD 2
(October 13) Wow, CTP news has really slowed down. Still, two good files today. First Celestial Dawn's Mod v4.22. It's only change is that it's 100% 1.2 patch compliant(before it was about 95% :)).
Also, Wes Whitaker released version 2 of his True Terrain Mod. The changes are: Swamps now have the values and abilities of grasslands. This allows tropical regions to be as attractive as temperate ones. Nets cost 200 PW, and all fisheries 600. Finally, placing Advanced Farms now costs 600 PW, instead of 500. Oceans and rivers produce 5 gold, as they did originally".

APOLYTON PACK, MAP SP
(October 4) This should be called "The Day Of The Packs" :) Two more packs: the Apolyton Pack v1.0, an effort to combine the best player created files, and Skorpion59's Map Scenario Pack v1.0 Add-on, a series of real and fictional maps. In more details:
The Apolyton Pack contains the following: Celestial Dawn's Mod v4.2 and the graphics for it, Harlan's Graphic Mod v1.0, TP's PowerSlics v2.00, Slax's Colors00.txt, Zaz's World maps and Uppsala's Mediterranean map. AP uses the scenario pack feature of the 1.2 patch, which means that no default files are overwritten, and installation and uninstallation are pretty easy. Some problems do exist, but there ways to overcome them.
Skorpion59's Map Scenario Pack v1.0 Add-on, is an add-on for the Apolyton Pack which contains the following maps: USA, Brittain, StdOCC, EasyOCC, 8City OCC, 8Square OCC(OCC "of course" means One City Challenge). A "stand-alone" version of MSP will be available shortly. Skorpion59 plans to include more maps in the future...
Well, some pretty good files are waiting for you to download :)

DUTCHEESE PACK
(October 4) The Meet the Challenge scenario has now grown to a scenario pack, also including the following: Quick Start for Single or Hotseat Games, Quick Start for PBEM Games, A Race for Conquest. Especially the PBEM scenario has been an instant success in the CTP-Multiplaying forum. A definite download(646KB) for every ctper, interested in multiplayer or not

TOM DAVIES UNITS
(October 1) Thanks to Tom Davies, we now have 16 files with unit graphics for use in scenarios, containing a total of 91 units(most of them of course thanks to Harlan Thompson and his 64 WW2 units collection). Tom sent us two updates of existing files, Slinger and Swordman, as well as two new ones, Early Light Cavalry and Spearman. Also, the Modification page has been reworked, units and other files are now separate from the guides and the other help texts.
